Housing Benefit provides help towards rent and some service charges.

There are two types of Council Tax Benefit - the 'main Council Tax Benefit' and the 'second adult rebate' - both can reduce the amount of Council Tax you have to pay.

You can also receive a reduction/discount in your council tax: (these are not means tested)

• If you live alone.
• If you or any other resident in your home is 'substantially and permanently disabled', this is caled the disability reduction scheme.
• If a person who lives with you (or lives alone) is 'severely mentally impaired'.
• Carers.
