Disability Discrimination Act
The Disability Discrimination Act 2005 sets a statutory duty on public authorities to promote equality of opportunity between disabled and non disabled people.
From December 2006 all public bodies such as local councils, schools and health centres will be placed under positive general duty to promote disability equality. This will require public bodies to actively tackle discrimination rather than providing 'reasonable adjustments'.
