'AgeUK' - What does it mean for Age Concern Bristol?
Age Concern England (and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) formally merged with Help the Aged on 1st April 2009 and re-named Age UK. A transition period of two years will end on 31st March 2011.
This merger did not include all the other 350+ Age Concerns across Britain, which remain federated partners under the Age Concern name. Age UK propose that existing Age Concerns should become either Brand Partners or Friends of the new merged charity and are on the point of sending out offer packs to individual Age Concerns. Other organisations, such as Older Peoples Forums, will be invited to be Friends. There will be an option for small Age Concerns to remain under that name.
Brand Partners will be expected to conform to certain standards and to provide “flagship services” to aim for equal quality services nationwide
Age Concern Bristol is awaiting its offer pack and is considering its position in relation to the new, merged charity. We anticipate making a definite decision within 3-6 months.
Whatever decision is made it is unlikely that our currents services will change significantly and our current service users will continue to receive the help and support that they need and request.
