Brunelcare / Age Concern Bristol Research Forum
The research forum is a working partnership between Brunelcare and Age Concern Bristol, a charity helping older people in Bristol to live independently and play an active role in community life. The Forum’s aim is to present speakers who provide insight into the results of relevant policy research to an audience of planners, managers, service providers and users in the Bristol area. Bristol City Council, Bristol University, University of the West of England, Bristol Primary Care Trust, Bristol Older People’s Forum and St Monica Trust are just a few of the organisations that are currently represented at the Forum.
It was set up in 1997 and has meetings four times a year, usually in premises run by Brunelcare.
The idea is to disseminate the results of the research to as wide an audience as possible. Therefore, we are always looking for more people to attend. We have recently had Grace Beveridge, a health visitor, talking about undertaking care assessments for the elderly in the local community and Chris Maggs, Air Balloon Surgery, talking about the issues around medicine management. Both generated much discussion about best practice with care planning. Our next meeting is planned for January 2009 and we are hoping to organise a larger event in October 2009.
