Music in the air
At Age Concern Bristol’s Roundhouse Day Centre, a group of men in the Friday group have decided to start their own singing group called the Swinging Singers. A few of them have sung in the past for a living, or for pleasure. Graham Perrett a volunteer is helping to organize the choir “I used to sing in clubs and cabaret and I’m in the choral group in my local church, I can play anything on my keyboard”. Service user Patrick Adlam also sang in the clubs all around Bristol in his younger days, while John Woolaway sang and was a drummer in a band. The group hope to start practicing in the near future with a view to being ready to perform by Christmas. The Roundhouse works with a nearby school and there is a regular exchange between the Roundhouse centre and the school. “Maybe the choir could perform for the children.” suggests Evelyn Frost. Evelyn has always enjoyed singing and participated in a choir at the Roundhouse several years ago. She says she would enjoy singing again and would encourage some of the others to join the group. More from the Swinging Singers later on in the year.
