14th March 2010: Getting On – True Stories of growing older in 21st century Britain

Age Concern Bristol drew attention to older people's issues this month, hosting the moving play Getting On at the Tobacco Factory Theatre. This production has been created by London based Theatre Company Ice and Fire who specialise in daring and thought provoking outreach work.

No Time for Crime

Singing rang through the Withywood Centre last Tuesday as The Golden Oldies (Withywood’s Older people’s singing group) opened Age Concern Bristol’s ‘No Time for Crime’ event. “…And its hands off our silver tea sets!...” they sang enthusiastically to the tune of Hi Ho Silver Lining, joined by the other 80 attendees who all held copies of the aptly adapted lyrics. Other tunes included ‘Bogus Caller’, a catchy version of ‘Pretty Woman’ and a version of the well know Elvis tune Return to Sender which referred to bogus junk mail which is regularly posted through older people’s doors.
